Kedarkantha Trek

  • The Beas Kund Trek takes you to a beautiful alpine lake at 3,600 meters, offering stunning views of snow-capped peaks, meadows, and glaciers, perfect for both beginners and experienced trekkers.

Overview

The Beas Kund Trek takes you to a stunning high-altitude glacial lake located at 3,600 meters above sea level. This trek is among the most popular and scenic in Himachal Pradesh, starting and ending in the small village of Dundhi, near Solang Nala in Manali.

The difficulty level of the Beas Kund trek is moderate, making it suitable for both beginners and those with prior trekking experience. The trail offers breathtaking views of glaciers, valleys, lush meadows, and snow-covered peaks like Shitidhar, Friendship Peak, Deo Tibba, Indrasan, and Hanuman Tibba.

Beas Kund is renowned as the source of the Beas River, which flows through Manali. The trek leads you to this serene alpine lake, situated at an altitude of 3,700 meters. Along the way, you’ll pass through beautiful meadows, with emerald lakes nestled beneath towering mountain peaks.

The trek also gives you a chance to witness picturesque grasslands, alpine flora, and the local wildlife. You may encounter goats grazing along the trail and enjoy the beauty of mushrooms and strawberries that grow along the path.

The shimmering lake contrasts beautifully with the rugged mountains of the Pir Panjal Range. The lake splits into smaller streams and waterfalls, which eventually converge to form the powerful Beas River. Along the route, you’ll also pass famous landmarks such as Friendship Peak, Shitidhar, and Hanuman Tibba.

A historical legend also surrounds Beas Kund: it’s believed that the sage Vyasa, who authored the Mahabharata, bathed here daily, giving rise to the name “Beas Kund” (from Vyasa and Kund meaning lake).

The Beas Kund Trek is ideal for those seeking a short but captivating adventure. The combination of snow-capped peaks and lush meadows makes this trek particularly appealing to nature lovers. Despite its relatively short duration and moderate difficulty, it’s still essential to prepare for the altitude gain, which ranges from 8,000 ft to 12,000 ft.
